Thousands of people are stranded as floodwaters block the Takoradi-Agona-Tarkwa highway.

On Tuesday evening, June 21, there was a traffic jam on the Takoradi-Agona-Tarkwa highway.

This was in response to flooding caused by a downpour in that part of the Western Region.

Thousands of motorists have been stranded as a result of the incident, with many seeking refuge in nearby schools and shelters to spend the night.

There was a traffic buildup over at least a 15 kilometers stretch.

Several vehicles that tried to force their way through the rising waters were also submerged.

However, no casualty has been recorded.

Workers and students from nearby schools also abandoned their vehicles to walk home.

"I got stuck in it for 5 hours and went back home," JoyNews' Justice Baidoo said, cutting short his planned trip to Accra.

Container trucks making their way to the Takoradi harbor have been caught up in the incident.

Additionally, industrial vehicles from the local mining district have gathered on the road's shoulders, creating a chaotic scene.
